On Aug. 21, a damage to property complaint was filed at mile marker 126, Interstate 20. According to reports, a man said while he was driving westbound on Interstate 20 in a 2017 Ford pickup truck, he struck a large bird. The bird struck the complainant’s windshield. The complainant said the bird was either a hawk or an eagle and that it was carrying a fish. The fish was left behind, reports state, stuck in the windshield of the complainant’s truck.

On Aug. 19, Stacy Patterson Alvarez, 50, Covington, was arrested and charged with DUI, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, following too closely, open container and driving while license suspended. According to reports, a deputy was called to Interstate 20 from a motorist complaint that a black Kia Optima was failing to maintain its westbound lane and was following closely behind a tractor-trailer truck. The deputy was able to make contact with the vehicle at the 113 mile marker and allegedly observed it weaving and pulling close to the truck before backing off and pulling close again. The deputy activated his emergency lights near the 114 exit and the vehicle took the exit but would not stop. A city of Madison Police Department officer pulled in front of the vehicle to force it to stop. Once stopped, reports state, a deputy immediately smelled “the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle.” Reports state a nearly consumed bottle of Crown Royal was sitting near the front seat. Consequent to the traffic stop, the deputy learned that Alvarez’s license had been suspended for DUI and that she had two outstanding warrants against her in both Newton and Rockdale counties for probation violation.

On Aug. 20, a civil complaint was filed at a Cleveland Avenue, Buckhead, residence. According to reports, a woman alleged that she went to the residence to retrieve personal items and a man at the residence rebuffed her and allegedly slapped the items out of her hand. The woman said she had four vehicles and a camper at the property but had no paperwork to verify the claim. She also said a Morgan County deputy had instructed her to go to the residence and pick up her items. To buttress the claim, she showed a text message from the deputy that reportedly stated the woman’s complaints were a civil matter and needed to be addressed by the court.

On Aug. 20, Carvetta Lynn Williams, 27, Madison, was arrested and charged with fleeing and attempting to elude, failure to obey a stop sign and defective or no headlights. According to reports, a deputy allegedly observed Williams driving a silver Honda Accord on Washington Street onto South Main Street at 11:14 p.m. with only one functioning headlight. Reports state that the deputy attempted to execute a traffic stop on the Honda but it made an alleged abrupt turn onto Burnett Street and the passenger door opened and then shut. The vehicle allegedly ran a stop sign at the intersection of Burnett Street and Old Post Road and continued allegedly running the stop sign at Academy Street and Burnett Street while turning left on Academy Street. Reports state the vehicle continued with the deputy in pursuit and drove through multiple intersections, eventually coming to a stop at the intersection of Academy and Hill Street. A Madison Police Department officer arrived to provide backup and the Morgan County deputy exited the vehicle with his service pistol drawn and ordered Williams and the passenger from the vehicle. Williams was detained in handcuffs. The male passenger told the deputy that he believed he might have an arrest warrant against him in Putnam County and he had contemplated jumping from the vehicle during the incident and that he had told Williams not to stop because he feared the warrant. Reports state the man had no warrant against him. A suspected rolled marijuana cigarette was located in the vehicle and was destroyed. The vehicle was turned over to the man and Williams was transported to the Morgan County Detention Center.

On Aug. 19, Alphonzo Terrell Thompson, 29, Augusta, was arrested and charged with obstruction or hindering a law enforcement officer and license plate violation. No other information was available regarding the incident.

On Aug. 19, a terroristic threats complaint was filed at a Bostwick Road residence. According to reports, a man said he had been having trouble with his 15-year-old daughter and had taken the teen’s phone as punishment. The man said the teen’s behavior had improved and he and his wife gave the teen her phone back. That night, reports state, the man’s wife allegedly observed messages from a man from New York promising the teen he would send her tickets to come to New York. The man said he took the phone away again, and the teen claimed the text messages were old messages but the man said he had the phone “wiped clean” the first time he took it. A deputy reminded the teen that her parents had “every right” to take her phone and she disagreed and “became upset.” The deputy then instructed the teen to go to bed and the teen alleged that her father had “threatened to take my life.” The father said he was afraid to go to sleep because of what the teen might do and would be staying up all night.

On Aug. 18, a theft by taking complaint was filed at a Nolan Store Road residence. According to reports, a man said between 6 p.m and midnight, someone took a 2012 Chevrolet Impala from the yard. While speaking with the complainant, a Madison Police Department officer arrived and advised the complainant that his vehicle had been involved in a vehicle pursuit on Aug. 16 that resulted in a car crash where the driver of the Impala fled on foot.

On Aug. 19, a statutory rape complaint was filed at a Rutledge residence. According to reports, a 15-year-old female alleged that at the beginning of the year, her 17-year-old boyfriend allegedly forced himself onto her by threatening suicide if she did not comply. The teen said she repeatedly said no. Reports state the relationship ended in May but in August the teen learned she was approximately 18 weeks pregnant, which, she said, matched the time period she allegedly had unwanted sex with the male.

On Aug. 17, a financial identity fraud complaint was filed at the Morgan County Public Safety Center. According to reports, a woman said while she was on her computer, an alarm started going off and she received a screen notice that her computer had allegedly been compromised and she needed to call a number to get control of her computer. The woman said she called the number and after being transferred to three different people, was told that her financial card had been compromised and she needed to go to the nearest Lowe’s Home Improvement store to do a “reversal recovery of $6,000.” The complainant said as she was traveling to Lowe’s from Monticello her cell phone received several calls from suspected scammers and at that moment she realized she was being scammed. The woman went to the Morgan County Public Safety Center instead of Lowe’s and filed a report. She did state that she had given the scammer her Social Security number, Bank of America account information, Bank of Monticello account information and Truist Bank account information.

On Aug. 17, a criminal damage to property complaint was filed at an Athens Highway residence. According to reports, a man said he was driving north on U.S. Highway 441 when the left front side window of his vehicle shattered.

On Aug. 17, a 12-year-old Morgan County Middle School student was arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and purchase and sale of marijuana flavored products to minors. The arrest occurred at 12:45 p.m. No other information regarding the arrest was made available.

On Aug. 16, a criminal trespass complaint was filed at a Parks Mill Road residence. According to reports, a man alleged that a neighbor woman, who he said was “crazy,” had cut a portion of grass on his property. The complainant alleged that he had the woman criminally trespassed in the past and had a long running dispute with the woman. A deputy spoke through the door at the woman’s house and she said she had, in fact, cut the grass and thought it was part of her property. The deputy also noted that the woman had never been served with a criminal trespass notice. The deputy served the woman with a criminal trespass notice.
